Onninen sells technical-engineering materials, primarily focusing on the requirements of construction objects. The company is part of the Finnish K Group, the biggest trading sector operator in Finland and one of the biggest in Northern Europe. K Group's building and technical trade division has operations in eight countries: Finland, Sweden, Norway, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Belarus. Sales and procurement department specialists in Latvia work at the company’s head office in Riga.

Prior to renovation, the premises of the Onninen head office in Riga were used as a furniture showroom. Thus, the lighting solution was specifically designed for exhibition purposes: It consisted of individual lighting fixtures for accent lighting. It was clear that the lighting was not suitable to office requirements and needed to be replaced.

The aim of the new office lighting was to provide people-friendly, ergonomic lighting. In order to achieve a high visual comfort at computer workplaces, the new lighting needed to be uniform and unobtrusive with reduced glare. At the same time, the client asked for a lighting solution with an appealing, modern design that would enhance the office space.

Furthermore, Onninen had to face a challenge regarding the installation of the lighting solution: The ceiling surface in the premises is made of two types of material - plasterboard panels and decorative aluminium grates. Therefore, two different installation methods for luminaires were needed- surface mounted and suspended. Finally, the project had to be cost-efficient.

The new product line of LEDVANCE - Linear IndiviLED luminaires were an ideal solution for the challenges of the project. Seventy-five LED luminaires, 34 W each have been installed throughout the office premises, both surface mounted and suspended.

The linear luminaires provide a very uniform lighting with reduced glare (UGR*< 16) thanks to the special Linear IndiviLED optics, where each LED has a separate lens and reflector. Hence, the illumination is very comfortable for employees and suitable for the illumination of computer workplaces. The chosen colour temperature is neutral white, 4000 K. The bright lighting by the powerful LED luminaires (4200 lm) ensures an illuminance well over 500 lux so that the offices are lit according to lighting standards.

Onninen benefits especially from the flexibility of installation methods: Because of the different ceiling materials, surface mounted as well as suspended Linear IndiviLED luminaires were installed. In some cases, in which the mounting height varied between the grid ceiling and the aluminium grates, the different means of installation were combined in one luminaire: One end was surface mounted on the plasterboards, the other end was suspended beneath the aluminium ceiling. In this way, the light lines are all on the same height and create a calm ceiling look.

What is more, the Linear IndiviLED luminaires stand out due to their high product quality and very good cost-benefit ratio. Maintenance and energy costs of the new LED lighting solution are very reduced compared to traditional lighting technology with T5 fluorescent lamps: There is no replacement of lamps over lifetime (50 000h, L80 / B10) and the savings of energy is up to 50%. To make sure that the customer can fully rely on the LEDVANCE quality, the lighting fixtures are TÜV SÜD and ENEC certified and are guaranteed a five-year manufacturer’s warranty.
