The Commerzbank Arena in Frankfurt on the Main, home of the German football club Eintracht Frankfurt and formerly known as Waldstadion, was newly built for the 2006 FIFA World Cup as a pure football stadium from 2002 to 2005. With a capacity of 51,500 spectators, it is one of the ten largest football stadiums in Germany. Until recently, its 54,000 m² parking garage accounted for an annual energy consumption of 200,000 kWh, due mainly to the 2,100 “traditional” T8 fluorescent lamps in ECG damp-proof luminaires in the eight parking levels. Therefore, the stadium operators were looking for a modern energy-saving LED alternative. The solution: OSRAM SubstiTUBE HF LED tubes.

Sebastian Tuch, technical manager at Bilfinger HSG, the company responsible for the facility management of the Commerzbank Arena, explains why OSRAM and OSRAM SubstiTUBE HF LED lamps have been the perfect choice: "We have been looking for an energy saving LED alternative for our parking garage lighting for a long time now. The challenge we faced was that the product we were looking for, had to be compatible with our ECG, something which most brands and products did not. With the SubstiTUBE HF by OSRAM, we have found the perfect product for our requirements. This has proved to us once again that OSRAM is a competent and reliable partner for our projects."

OSRAM SubstiTUBE HF LED tubes are suitable for ECG-controlled luminaires. They offer a very high luminous flux of up to 3,400 lumen that is fully achieved even at low temperatures. The LED lamps enable quick and simple plug & play replacement without rewiring, ensuring safe handling according to IEC62776 – e. g. by offering a special safety switch, which prevents from electric shock during installation. All the test marks of the luminaires remain valid.
100 lamps could be replaced in only one hour, so the replacement for the entire parking garage took just three days. Sebastian Tuch shows himself impressed: "The installation of the OSRAM SubstiTUBE HF proceeded in a surprisingly uncomplicated way. No rewiring was required. And this way, through LED technology we can now save energy and reduce maintenance costs in the future."
OSRAM product manager Dr. Michael Höge summarizes the particular strengths of the SubstiTUBE HF LED lamps: "With SubstiTUBE HF we have completed our LED tubes portfolio. This lamp has been specifically designed for ECG luminaires. It offers two great advantages compared to fluorescent lamps: The first advantage is that we can save energy up to 60% and the second is that this lamp lasts up to 50,000 hours.”
By using OSRAM SubstiTUBE LED tubes, about 50,000 kWh can be saved each year in the Commerzbank Arena parking garage now. The payback period is less than 1 year.
