LEDVANCE's lighting concept at the WiZink Center offers precise color rendering, reduced glare, and adaptable intensity, meeting Class I standards and simplifying maintenance for a superior sports and entertainment experience.

THE CHALLENGE

The WiZink Center, a key venue in Madrid for cultural and sports events with a capacity of up to 18,000 spectators, serves as the home arena for CB Estudiantes and Real Madrid Baloncesto. To meet FIBA's international competition standards and enhance the player and audience experience, the lighting required a modernization to achieve a court-focused, NBA-style lighting solution.

THE SOLUTION

The property chose LEDVANCE to design and implement the new lighting concept for the WiZink Center due to LEDVANCE's expertise in complex lighting solutions, particularly in sports facilities. The decision was influenced by the compatibility of LEDVANCE's proposed lighting with FIBA's requirements, the technological quality of the products, and the attentive customer-focused service throughout the project, from planning to completion.

THE BENEFITS

The new lighting at the arena and common areas of WiZink Center meets all FIBA requirements for international basketball games by exceeding 2,000 lux luminance and enhancing light quality with a CRI of 91. It features floodlights with 15° and 25° angles to focus light effectively and reduce glare. Integrated DMX control allows flexible lighting intensity adjustments, extending luminaire lifespan and lowering maintenance costs. External drivers for the 56 projectors, each rated at 1,280 watts, enable ground-level maintenance without cranes.

SUMMARY

WiZink Center in Madrid is upgrading its lighting for future international basketball events with LEDVANCE's improved concept. This significantly improves light quality in terms of color rendering, glare, and luminance, allows for situation-appropriate lighting intensity control, and sustainably reduces maintenance efforts.
